spring break

Series: Junior Journal | Story 14

The excitement the weeks before

the temptation to run screaming

fearing you'll explode from the anticipation

daydreaming of warm weather and sandy beaches

hoping to get a tan even though pale skin won′t let you

the countless hours spent up at night thinking of what you'll need

you're vibrating with excitement

jumping with joy

your time waiting is almost up!

eyes peeled open all night

you repeat in your head

spring break's almost here, spring break's almost here

for two weeks you're free!

no boring schooling

no lockers

no confusing, brain twisting equations and word problems

no hectic class schedules

and no annoying people to deal with

you glance at the calendar for what seems to be the millionth time

and your anticipation grows even more

ONE MORE DAY!

it's so close that you can almost taste

the cold chocolate ice cream cones on a hot day, dripping down

your curled fingers

the cool water from the lit pool gliding over your sunburnt skin

in the evening after a long day of fun

YES!

i've made it!

freedom at last!

the drive to the airport can't seem to come fast enough

your butterflies have butterflies as you approach the terminal

marked with your freedom

you step into the plane, find your seat and plop down

finally they close the door to the plane and you think to yourself...

"my adventure awaits"
