Women Veterans Invited to Recognition Luncheons around the State

MISSOULA – The American Legion Department of Montana is planning Women Veteran Recognition Luncheons throughout the state. The first one will be held in Missoula May 14.

The American Legion is the largest veteran service organization for military veterans. American women have answered the call to serve with the same honor and integrity as their male counterparts, but too often they have been told or have not considered themselves veterans. American women have been great patriots, warriors and healers for the United States in its military efforts from the Revolutionary War to the present. More than two million women veterans were estimated in 2015. With the current addition of combat positions open to women, this number is estimated to rise considerably.

The luncheons start with opening ceremonies, information from the Veteran Service Officers, Veteran Centers and the VA with special recognition to our remaining WWII female veterans. There will also be a guest speaker during the luncheon. Information will be provided to help the veterans know what is available in Montana for them.

The first luncheon will be held in Missoula May 14 at 825 Ronan Street from 9:30 a.m. – 2 p.m.

There will be another in Big Timber at 110 East 3rd Avenue, on May 21 from 9:30 a.m. – 2 p.m.

The final luncheon will be held in Havre June 4.

The Recognition Luncheons are no cost and preregistration is highly advised so our caterers know how many meals to prepare for.

To register for the Missoula event contact Debbie Hancock at 406-654-4279 or 116 Dallas Street, Lolo, MT 59847; for Big Timber contact Kim Kay c McCarty Martin at 701-260-2833 or 1426 2nd Ave South, Great Falls, MT 59405; and for Havre contact Laura Brookie at 406-654-4279 or PO Box 1336 Harlem, MT 59526.

Missoula County Growth Policy Update

MISSOULA - The Missoula County Commissioners have been reviewing the Growth Policy document chapter by chapter during their work sessions. They are considering comment letters, public testimony and recommendations made by the Planning Board.

Due to the need to take additional time in their review, they have canceled the public hearing on May 4. The public hearing has been rescheduled to June 1 at 1:30 p.m. in the Board of County Commissioners meeting room, B14, Missoula County Administration Building, 199 W. Pine St., Missoula.

Prior to the public hearing, a new draft showing the commissioners’ suggested changes to the document will be posted for public review and comment. We expect it to be available the week of May 16.

In the interim, the commissioners have scheduled three more work sessions as noted below. However, when they finish their review they will cancel any remaining work sessions. All work sessions are scheduled to be held in Room 206 of the Missoula County Administration Building.

Thursday, May 5th, 3-5 p.m.

Friday May 6th, 1-3 p.m.
