Swan Valley Community Council Member ~ Two, Three-year Terms ~

May 3 Elections

Henry S. Westra - Swan Council

I, along with my wife Carolyn, were first introduced to the Swan Valley in the 1980's. It became our desire to someday relocate to the Swan so, to that end, we purchased a parcel of land in the early 1990's.

There were many trips back and forth to Michigan until 2013 when we were able to fulfill our desire to be full time residents of Montana's Swan Valley. I take advantage of the outdoor activities the Swan has to offer, continue to work on and upkeep my collector vehicles and using our camper we explore other areas of Montana and the surrounding states.

My career was spent in Michigan as a Certified Medical Group Practice Administrator. I received a Bachelor's of Science degree in Zoology from Michigan State University and complimented that with a Master's of Science in Accountancy from Western Michigan University.

During my career, I was active in the Michigan Medical Group Management Association (MMGMA) which is a 500+ member organization dedicated to the promotion and education of practice administrators. While serving as President of the MMGMA, the organization was influential in crafting and passing legislation at the state level. I also had the opportunity to advise representatives at both the federal and state levels regarding healthcare matters.

Over the years I have served on boards of various organizations and as a township trustee. I currently serve on the Swan Valley Community Foundation Board and as Condon Community Church treasurer.

I have witnessed firsthand how individuals can have influence if they are willing to participate in the process. Missoula County is large geographically with many diverse communities. It is to the county's credit that local advisory councils have been established to facilitate communication with the outlying communities.

I see the opportunity as a council member to represent the residents of Swan Valley-Condon, continue the already established communication with County Administration and be a part in strengthening this link. One major part of this link will be the successful completion of the Swan Valley-Condon Area Growth Plan.
