Montana State Parks Seeks Public Comment on Draft Public Use Rules

HELENA – Montana State Parks (stateparks.mt.gov) announced today that public comment is being sought on the proposed Public Use Rules. The current Public Use Rules, which guide the public’s use of state parks, are out of date, many of which were last updated in 1988. Public comments will be accepted through Friday, April 15.

The proposed draft Public Use Rules updates existing rules while identifying new rules which address emerging park uses or management concerns. The changes balance public service responsibilities with resource protection.

On Feb. 24, 2016, the Montana State Parks & Recreation Board proposed the draft rules. A 28-day public comment period for the proposed Public Use Rules is now open. The Board will hold a public hearing April 11 at 6 p.m. at the Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks Headquarters located at 1420 East 6th Avenue, Helena, MT, to consider the proposed adoption of the draft rules.

The public can view a PDF version of the draft Public Use Rules and provide comments online at: http://fwp.mt.gov/news/publicNotices/rules/pn_0191.html or at fwp.mt.gov click on “Submit Public Comments.”

The public may also submit comments by email to FWPParksRules@mt.gov or by regular mail to: Public Use Rules, Attn. Maren Murphy, P.O. Box 200701, Helena, MT 59620-0701. Public comments are due by Friday, April 15.
