Clearwater Music Studio

Business of the Week

Series: Business of the Week | Story 13

Goals: Owner and musician Scott Milner's goal is to help his students reach their own musical goals. He listens to what they want to accomplish, helps them improve at their own pace and have fun with their music.

History: Music has been an important part of Milner's life since the fourth grade. He could never imagine life without music being a part of it. He received a bachelor's degree in flute performance from the University of Montana. He continued his musical studies at Boston University and Brandeis University earning a masters and doctorate in musicology.

Milner is an active performer of classical music, jazz and folk. He plays professionally with the jazz combo Triple Sec, sings with Dolce Canto (an auditioned acapella choir based in Missoula) and performs folk music with The Milner Brothers. He has given three public voice recitals of art songs and arias and has expertise in German diction. His CDs are available at Grizzly Claw, at music stores and on CD Baby.com.

After teaching in the classroom and privately for about 10 years in Pennsylvania and Montana, Milner has focused on studio teaching. "I always enjoyed putting on school programs and working with the kids," said Milner. "I like teaching music reading and healthy body mechanics – playing comfortably with ease. The most important thing is to find enjoyment in whatever style you choose."

While he has been teaching privately in Seeley Lake since 2010, Milner officially opened Clearwater Music Studio this year.

Products & Services: Milner focuses his teaching on guitar, piano and voice to all ages and all levels (no banjo or mandolin). He also teaches all band instruments. Clearwater Music Studio is located on Grizzly Drive in his home. His lesson schedule is flexible with his students' needs.
