MISSOULA - The late Seeley Lake Trailblazer 4-H Club member Mark Teague’s steer raised more than $25,000 Saturday, Aug. 13 at the Western Montana Fair 4-H & FFA Livestock Sale. All of the proceeds raised from the sale of the animal will go into the Mark Teague Memorial Scholarship Fund to help future 4-Hers get started on a market beef project. Teague passed away last fall at age 16. He had already purchased his 4-H steer for this year’s fair with his earnings from last year. SEELEY LAKE – The Seeley Lake Rural Fire District (District) received their new Type 1 ambulance in mid-July. The ambulance was put into service July 30 and will be the first unit to respond. The District is retaining the old ambulance as the secondary ambulance. It will be used during "call collisions," when another call comes in when the first ambulance is already on a call, and be available when the first ambulance is being used. SEELEY LAKE – The annual Youth for Christ (YFC) Seeley Lake Challenge Duathlon/Triathlon attracted 111 solo racers, six teams and a record number of children to the shores of Seeley Lake, Aug. 13. SWAN VALLEY - The Piper Fire burning on the Swan Lake Ranger District within the Flathead National Forest continues to burn. The fire area received significant precipitation on Aug. 9 and 10 with amounts reaching approximately three quarters of an inch. Although significant precipitation occurred in the fire area, the fire has grown approximately three acres bringing the total area burned to approximately 15 acres. POTOMAC - Julie Hacker died at home Friday, Aug. 12 after five years of suffering from a blood cancer, multiple myeloma. She was born April 24, 1934 at the Thornton Hospital in Missoula, Mont. to Arnold H. Case and Annabelle (Rehder) Case of Potomac, Mont.
