  • Please Pause for Pets and People

    Elinor Williamson|Feb 9, 2017

Well the birds are coming back already. I have the usual winter ones but I also have a couple of little wrens. I bet they wonder why they came back so soon. They like the seeds and suet feeders so they will be fine. The big cats are out so please watch your dogs while they are out and don’t leave them out alone while you are gone unless you have someone to watch them. Also people are again stealing dogs, especially purebreds. There were two reported in Missoula and there is a Brittney Spaniel missing in the Grant Creek area. There is a $...

  • Jobs are More Important than Recreation

    Roxie Sterling, Seeley Lake, Mont.|Feb 9, 2017

SEELEY LAKE - I currently live 100 yards from the Seeley Lake airport and a quarter mile from Cottonwood Lakes Road. I know a little bit about gravel pits. As a child, I lived with my parents and my three siblings at a gravel pit in Western Montana. My Dad was employed as a crusher operator and he only had to walk 100 yards from our camper to the crusher. The owner was gracious enough to let us live there for a year. My siblings and I loved it, the gravel pit on one side and the Flathead River on the other side of our camper. My Mom never once...

  • Seeley Lake Air Quality Update

Benjamin Schmidt and Sarah Coefield, Missoula City-County Health Department Air Quality Specialist|Feb 9, 2017

SEELEY LAKE - The 2016-2017 winter has been a cold snowy affair for western Montana. Because of the colder-than-usual temperatures, people are burning more wood to heat their homes and the temperature inversions are more persistent than in recent years. These factors have contributed to a large number of days over the particulate standard. So far this winter, the Seeley Lake air monitoring station has measured 32 days over the national ambient air quality standard for particulate matter in the...

  • Montana Remains 'High, Wide and Handsome'

Rick and Susie Graetz, University of Montana Department of Geography|Feb 9, 2017

“Colorado is high, having more peaks within its borders than any other state. Wyoming is wide, with the breadth of the plains between the Bighorns and the Grand Tetons. California is handsome, with a splendor of success. It takes all three adjectives to describe Montana.” In 1941, Donald Curloss Peattie, a naturalist of the 1920s through the 1950s, included these words in his book “The Road of a Naturalist.” In 1943, Montana newsman and writer Joseph Kinsey Howard took the three descrip...

  • The President

    Shane Kesterke, Elder - Mission Bible Fellowship|Feb 9, 2017

We live in a time in America, though certainly not the only time in America, where much of the country seems to be polarized between differing political viewpoints. And this polarization seems to show up most after an election, with some of those who did not get their way in the election acting out in very poor manners. Living here in Seeley Lake, I would like to think that maybe we get along with each other in spite of differing ideologies, and certainly I am thankful to not be aware of any protesting or rioting going on in our area....
